Junior Zoey Johns opened her cross country season with a top-ten finish Saturday, placing eighth at the 417Running Cross Country Kickoff in Nixa. She covered the 5,000-meter course in 21:17.3 to lead the Republic girls.
Sophomore Peyton Bodoin was 19th in 22:47.4, and junior Jovi Kirby finished 24th in 23:14.9. Sophomore Ellie Woolfenden rounded out the group in 28:26.5. With four runners entered, Republic didn’t field enough girls to record a team score, which requires five.
On the boys side, junior Lucas Riffe led the Tigers with an 18th-place finish, running 18:04.4. Sophomore Luke Delahay was 28th in 18:50.7, and sophomore Eli Sherrow finished in 20:12.0. Sophomore Derek Argaez and freshman Caden Young crossed back-to-back, with Argaez running 22:10.1 and Young finishing his first varsity race in 22:14.8.
The Republic boys placed sixth out of 13 teams with 208 points. Nixa won the meet with 36, followed by Springfield Central with 56 and Waynesville with 104.
