The Republic girls swimming 200-yard medley relay team earns Performance of the Week honors after breaking a school record on back-to-back nights to open the season.
The quartet of Amelia Beaver, Elise Replogle, Ava Brown, and Zaylie Pinnell first set the mark Thursday at the Springfield All-Relays. They finished in 2:03.54, erasing a record that had stood since the 2019-20 season (2:07.47).
Twenty-four hours later, the same group lowered the time again. Competing at a six-team meet Friday, they won the event in 2:03.53, shaving another hundredth of a second off their new standard.
“I had a pretty good idea what it was going to be, but I’m really happy with that,” Beaver said of their time after the initial race.
Their time is already five to six seconds better than Republic’s time in the event at the end of last season, when times are usually at their fastest.
