Republic’s softball team erased a four-run deficit and beat Glendale 6-5 in its first game Saturday at the Lead-Off Tournament, then dropped its finale to Branson 9-3. The split left the Lady Tigers at 2-2 for the weekend at the tournament, hosted by Republic Parks and Rec.

Glendale scored two runs in each of the first two innings, but Republic chipped away the rest of the day. The Lady Tigers scored a run in the third, another in the fourth, and two in the fifth to tie the game at 4-4.
Glendale went back in front with a run in the top of the sixth. Republic answered with two in the bottom of the inning to win it. Mia Carnes tripled home the tying run, then scored on a squeeze play single by Myleigh Mooneyham.
Kendra Goeke went the distance for the win, striking out nine over six innings. She allowed six hits and walked three.
Maddie Taylor led Republic at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a walk. Mia Carnes added two hits, including her game-tying triple. Lily Worthy, Chloe Simpson, and Myleigh Mooneyham had one hit apiece.

Branson jumped on Republic early in the second game, scoring five runs in the first inning. Branson added a run in the second and three in the third to build a 9-0 lead.
Kennedy Smithson settled things down in relief, allowing five hits over 3 2/3 innings, but the Lady Tigers couldn’t dig out of the hole. Republic scored three runs in the fourth in a game shortened by the tournament’s time limit.
Emma Ellison, Simpson, Amelia Beaver, and Smithson each had a hit for Republic.
Republic went 2-2 at the tournament after splitting Friday’s games — a 3-2 loss to Dadeville and an 8-0 win over Hartville.
