Event wins for Republic at Monday’s Republic Classic, the season opener for the Tigers’ track and field program. Republic claimed six titles on the boys’ side and six on the girls’ side, spread across sprints, distance, field events, and relays.

Republic swept the top three spots in the boys’ 100 meters. Junior Alex Johnson won in 10.83 seconds — a personal best — followed by senior Gavin Lawhon at 11.07 and senior Treyton Gray at 11.23. Johnson and Gray went 1-2 in the 200 as well, and all three ran on relay teams that placed in the top four.

Gold medals for Johnson, who won the 100, the 200, and anchored the winning 4×100 relay alongside Jacob Duran, Gray, and Lawhon. The relay clocked 44.18 seconds. Johnson also ran a leg on the second-place 4×200 team.

Individual event wins by Republic freshmen on the girls’ side. Kyndall Snider took the 200 meters in 27.65 seconds. Reese Tate cleared 2.74 meters to win the pole vault. And Maura Lander swept the horizontal jumps, winning the long jump at 4.81 meters and the triple jump at 10.80 meters.

Meters on junior Ekene Chukwu’s winning discus throw — roughly 179 feet. Chukwu’s personal best and new school record was nearly nine meters longer than the runner-up. He also placed fifth in the shot put. On the boys’ side, senior Izaiah Hull won the javelin with a throw of 51.60 meters, giving Republic two of the three throws titles.

Sophomore Zoey Johns’ winning time in the 3200 meters, a personal best. Johns also finished second in the 1600 and ran a leg of the girls’ 4×800 relay, which won in 10:43.60. Fellow sophomore Brylie Harris was right behind Johns in the 3200, finishing second in 13:21.61 — also a personal best.
