Republic captured the Central Ozark Conference West girls wrestling championship on Friday, securing the first conference title in program history. The title comes less than two weeks after the program won the first tournament championship in its history at the Republic Girls Invitational.
All schools competed in the same brackets at the COC tournament, with team scoring separated by division. Republic finished second overall with 191.5 points and topped the West Division field of Willard, Webb City, Carthage, Neosho, Joplin, and Parkview to win the championship.
Republic placed wrestlers in nine weight classes, and all nine finished in the top four of their respective weight classes.
Savannah Bratten produced the top individual performance for Republic, winning the 125-pound title and scoring 30 team points. Bratten recorded four falls, all coming under four minutes, and finished the day 4–0.
Mabel Rogers added with a championship at 115 pounds. Rogers went 3–0 with three falls, including pins in 35 seconds in the quarterfinals and 3:31 in the finals, finishing the tournament with her unbeaten season intact and scoring 28 team points.
Republic added two runner-up finishes. Bre-Elle Gutierrez placed second at 110 pounds, reaching the finals with a semifinal pin before falling to Nixa’s Ashton Mayes. Millie Waterman advanced to the 120-pound championship match with three falls before finishing second.
Three wrestlers placed third. Gabby Shanks rebounded from a semifinal loss to win two consolation matches by fall and take third at 135 pounds. Aara Shade finished third at 170 pounds, earning two falls and a major decision in the bracket.
Republic also picked up key fourth-place finishes from Rachel Clark at 100 pounds, Reese Tate at 105, and Anna McBroom at 155. Clark recorded three bonus-point wins, including a technical fall in the quarterfinals. Tate fought back through the consolation bracket with three wins to reach the third-place match. McBroom advanced to the semifinals and added a pin in the consolation round.
Republic’s nine top-four finishers accounted for the bulk of the team’s scoring and provided separation in the West Division standings, marking a milestone moment for a program that has gained momentum quickly during the second half of the season.
