Lady Tigers Drop Three in Springfield

Rolla scored twice with two outs in the fifth inning to beat Republic 4-3 Saturday, the closest of the Lady Tigers’ three losses on the final day of the Springfield Invitational.

Liberty beat Republic 15-0 in three innings, and Francis Howell won 7-1. All three of Saturday’s opponents have winning records: Liberty is 17-9, Rolla 15-8 and Francis Howell 18-7. Republic finished the tournament 1-4 after losing 3-2 to Bolivar and beating Battle 7-1 on Friday.

Rolla 4, Republic 3

Maddie Carter and Myleigh Mooneyham singled to open the game, and Republic scored three runs in the first inning. Jayma Pitchford doubled in the first run, Kendra Goeke grounded out to score Mia Carnes, and Pitchford scored when Rolla’s right fielder dropped Maddie Taylor’s fly ball.

Rolla scored both of its runs in the third on Republic errors.

Madi Chevalier, Carter and Mooneyham singled to load the bases with one out in the fifth, but Carnes struck out and Pitchford grounded out. In the bottom of the inning, Rolla put two runners on with two outs, and Sophia Cremer and Grace Hribar singled back-to-back to tie the game and take the lead.

Kennedy Smithson pitched five innings and allowed six hits and one walk with two strikeouts. Goeke and Mooneyham each had two hits, and Republic finished with nine.

The Lady Tigers are 8-18-1.
