Andie Wistrom and Ava Woolley combined for six goals and five assists on Monday, as Republic defeated Joplin 8-0 at home. The game ended at halftime after Republic scored eight times in the opening 38 minutes, as Republic rebounded after being shut out Friday by Columbia Hickman.
Republic outshot Joplin 28-0 and put 18 shots on goal. Joplin goalkeeper Kaydence Haaland-Sapp made 10 saves.
Paige Elsenraat opened the scoring in the fifth minute, assisted by Ava Woolley, who was a factor from her spot on the left wing all night. Woolley scored her own goal four minutes later off a rebound from an Elsenraat shot. Wistrom then quickly followed that up, scoring twice in succession. Her first came after a loose ball stayed in the box for 15 seconds before she gathered it and put it inside the left post. Bria Claxton scored in the 19th minute, then Wistrom scored a third time. Emma Hoodenpyle added a goal in the 23rd, and Macey Mitchell finished the scoring in the 33rd. Wistrom assisted on three.
The Lady Tigers have never lost to Joplin. Monday’s win extended that streak to nine straight over the Lady Eagles, with Republic outscoring them 22-0 over the last three meetings.
It was Republic’s fourth shutout of the season. Republic is now 6-4 and has won four of its last five matches.
