Lucas Riffe claimed the Flight 1 singles title Friday at the Republic Invitational, topping a field that included entries from across the area as the Tigers hosted their own tournament. Riffe is thought to be the first Republic player to win the tournament’s singles championship.
Riffe won his first two matches 8-1 and 8-3 before facing William Hein of Springfield Catholic in the final. He took a tight tiebreaker to close out the championship, 9-8 (7-5).
Nathan Henry reached the podium in Flight 2 singles, finishing third. Henry opened with an 8-0 win before dropping his second match, then recovered to beat a Glendale opponent 9-7 in the third-place match.
In doubles, Kaden Fisher and Robert Linn won the Flight 2 consolation bracket. After an opening loss, they won their final two matches, including a 9-8 (7-2) tiebreaker over Forsyth to finish fifth.
Raymond DeVries and Nevan Kulp competed in Flight 1 doubles.
