Nolan Lashley hit a two-out home run in the first inning to put Republic ahead, but Marshfield answered with a run in the third and two in the fifth to beat the Tigers 3-1 on Friday in the opening game of the Marshfield Invitational.

It was the second straight game Republic scored in the first inning and didn’t score again. The Tigers lost 6-1 at home to Glendale on Thursday.

Lashley fell behind in the count against Caleb Kasper before driving a two-strike pitch over the fence in left.

Republic put a runner on in each of the next three innings. In the third, Cooper Thomas and Lashley drew back-to-back two-out walks and moved up on a wild pitch. Landon Perkins took a called third strike to end the inning.

Landon Blankenship doubled to left with one out in the fourth, and Fisher Moore singled with two down to put runners at the corners, but Greg Hicks lined out to center.

Brennan Overstreet went six innings on the mound, allowing four hits and three runs with four strikeouts and a walk. Marshfield tied the game in the third on Chandler Barb’s RBI double, then took the lead in the fifth. A throwing error and a Case Steinbach RBI single accounted for Marshfield’s decisive runs.

Perkins and Overstreet opened the sixth with singles, but the Tigers stranded runners at the corners.

Blankenship finished 2-for-3 with a double. Kasper allowed one run on four hits over five innings with six strikeouts and three walks.
