Kameron Sutton finished as the runner-up at 165 pounds to lead the Republic wrestling team to a seventh-place finish at the two-day Lee’s Summit North Invitational, which concluded Saturday. Sutton was one of four Tigers to place in the top five individually.
Republic scored 282 team points, finishing just a half-point behind Warrensburg for sixth. Lee’s Summit West won the tournament with 418 points, followed by Oak Grove (350.5) and Maize South (344.5).
Sutton posted a 7-1 record over the weekend to earn his second-place medal. He was dominant through most of his matches, recording four pins and two technical falls. His fastest win came in just 35 seconds against Lansing’s Kyo Alcarez. His only loss came against Emerson Tjaden of De Soto in the final.
At 144 pounds, Keaton Overcast placed third. Overcast compiled a 6-1 record, highlighting his tournament with a 26-second pin over Ryan Raney of Oak Grove.
Ethan Montiel also earned a third-place finish, competing at 215 pounds. Montiel went 6-1 with six pins. Mason Whitworth added a fifth-place finish in the 215-pound bracket to round out the podium finishers for Republic.
