Republic’s girls tennis team advanced to the district championship with a 5–1 win over Branson at home Tuesday, using a sweep of the doubles matches to take early control.

Claire Norris and Abigail Bremer started things rolling with an 8–1 victory at number two doubles. Mati Carpenter and Aubree Tinsley followed that with an 8–3 win at number-one, and Marlee Vasquez and Sienna Blankenship finished the sweep with an 8–6 win at number three.

The three doubles wins gave Republic a quick advantage, and singles victories by Bremer and Tinsley clinched the match. Bremer won 6–0, 6–3 at number five, and Tinsley, playing through illness, won 6–0, 6–2 at number two. Her win proved decisive, as Branson earned its only point at number four singles, where Laney Woodard defeated Paelyn Kaufmann.

The other matches were unfinished after Republic sealed the fifth point. The Lady Tigers’ improvement in doubles play was the difference — after winning only two of three doubles matches the first time the teams met, Republic swept all three on Tuesday to secure a spot in the district final. The Lady Tigers will travel to Nixa Wednesday.
