Republic made quick work of Parkview on Monday in its regular-season finale, topping the Vikings 15-0 in three innings.
The details of the game were secondary to the emotions, as Republic’s seniors played their last game on their home field. That included catcher Allison Burford, who was sidelined all season by an injury but got the start on Monday. She contributed a base hit to the offensive onslaught in her first at bat
The game was also the final scheduled home appearance for longtime head coach Lee Dishman, whose daughter, Piper, started in the circle. After a scoreless first inning, Dishman walked out, took the ball from her, and the two shared a hug before she left the field to embrace fellow senior Kara Goeke, who came on in relief. Later in the game, the rest of the senior class left the field together for their own sendoff, drawing another round of applause from the crowd.
After the game, Republic honored Dishman, who won his 270th game at Republic on Monday. Several former players joined current players on the field in a ceremony after the game ended.
Republic’s season is not over yet, though. Dishman told players after the game to stay focused as they prepare for district play. The Lady Tigers (19-14) face Branson on Wednesday.
