Republic soccer notched its second straight win Friday, beating Bolivar 1–0 at home as the Tigers look to turn the corner after a nine-match losing streak earlier this season.
The breakthrough came in the 28th minute when Mason Tackett found space just inside the box and drilled his only shot of the night past the keeper. It stood as the game-winner, and Tackett also added a block on the defensive end.
(Later in the evening, Tackett was crowned homecoming king to cap his big day.)
Republic relied on goalkeeper Koal Williams and its back line to see the result through. Bolivar fired 18 shots, with nine on frame, but Williams was sharp all night and finished with nine saves for the clean sheet. The biggest scare came late in the first half when Bolivar earned a penalty after a Republic foul, but the attempt went high to keep the Tigers in front.
The Tigers managed 10 shots of their own, seven on target. Maddox Aldridge accounted for three of those, keeping Bolivar’s defense under pressure in the second half. Isaac Vermule blocked three shots, and Tackett and Landon Otero each added one.
Bolivar held a 6–2 edge in corner kicks, but Republic cleared them all.
The win moved Republic to 3–10 overall. They’ll look to extend the streak when they host Camdenton Monday at 4:30.
