Perfect Start: Lady Tigers Win Two at Morrisville Softball Tournament

Republic softball opened the Morrisville Tournament with a two-game sweep, outscoring West Plains and Marion C. Early by a combined 13-3 on Friday. The Lady Tigers got strong pitching from Piper Dishman and Kara Goeke, while Mia Carnes and Addie Brown powered the offense across both contests.

Republic 11, West Plains 3

Republic jumped on West Plains early, scoring four runs in the first inning and cruising to an 11-3 victory in the tournament opener. Addie Brown led the offensive charge, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs.

Mia Carnes provided the power, launching a home run as part of her 2-for-2 performance that included two runs and two RBIs. Emma Hoodenpyle added an RBI hit and a stolen base, while Emma Ellison contributed a hit, a run and stolen base. Myleigh Mooneyham swiped three bases to keep the pressure on West Plains’ defense.

Piper Dishman controlled the game from the circle, working five innings and allowing just one earned run on five hits. She struck out seven without issuing a walk, needing only 72 pitches to earn the victory.

Republic built a 4-0 lead in the first inning, then added single runs in the third and fourth before putting the game away with a five-run fifth inning. West Plains managed runs in the fourth and fifth innings but never threatened to make it competitive.

Republic 2, Marion C. Early 0

Kara Goeke threw a complete-game shutout in the second game, limiting Marion C. Early to one hit over seven innings while striking out nine. The senior walked just one batter and threw 83 pitches in the dominant performance.

Republic scored both runs in the first inning and made them stand up behind Goeke’s pitching. Paige Elsenraat went 2-for-3 with a run and two stolen bases, while Carnes delivered the key hit with an RBI double. Piper Dishman added a double and drew a walk.

The Lady Tigers managed only five hits total but played flawless defense behind Goeke, committing no errors.

Republic’s pitching staff combined to allow just six hits and one earned run across 12 innings, with Dishman and Goeke striking out 16 batters total. The Lady Tigers continue tournament play on Saturday.
