Republic Tennis Takes Second at Bolivar Tournament

Republic’s tennis team secured a second-place finish at the Bolivar Tournament, with singles players Gavin Collyott and Nathan Henry capturing individual flight championships.

Collyott went undefeated to claim the Flight 2 Singles title, while Henry posted a perfect 3-0 record to win Flight 3 Singles. Lucas Riffe added a second-place finish in Flight 1 Singles, falling to Bolivar’s Cy Douglas 6-4, 6-2 in a rematch of their Republic Invitational contest from Friday. It was Riffe’s first high school singles loss.

“Lucas didn’t play badly, it was just case of a very fine player (Douglas) playing at the top of their game,” said coach David Smashey.

Nico Lugli contributed a second-place finish in Flight 4 Singles, while the doubles team of Andrew McCord and Cooper Choate earned third place in Flight 1 Doubles.

Bolivar won the team title, with Republic finishing second, followed by Nixa and Willard.
