Republic Rolls Past Joplin for Eighth Straight Win

Republic extended its winning streak to eight games with a 54-13 victory over Joplin Friday night, improving to 14-8 on the season.

Lanney Strong scored 20 points and Paelyn Gilmore added 12, including all four of Republic’s three-pointers, to power Republic’s offense. The Lady Tigers have outscored their last two opponents 129-28.

Republic jumped ahead early, building a 15-2 lead in the first quarter. Strong scored six points in the opening period, and Cora Cutbirth added four.

The Lady Tigers continued to pull away in the second quarter, outscoring Joplin 17-6. Strong scored eight more points before halftime, and Republic led 32-8 at the break.

Gilmore heated up in the third quarter, connecting on two three-pointers as Republic stretched its lead to 48-12.

Aiyana Kroll led Joplin with four points.

The Lady Tigers take their eight-game winning streak into a cross-division Central Ozark Conference showdown against district opponent Kickapoo at home on Monday. That game will be part of a six-game super night together with the boys basketball teams. The varsity girls will begin play around 6:00.
