Republic’s Macey Mitchell scored with 17:50 remaining in the game to give the Lady Tigers a 1-0 victory at Webb City Tuesday. The win was Republic’s sixth straight and improved their record to 9-5 overall, 1-0 in the Central Ozark Conference West Division.

The teams battled through a scoreless first half before Mitchell broke the deadlock. The goal started when Kaylee Cornelsen settled the ball near midfield and played it ahead to Cadence Lugar about 40 yards from the goal. Lugar played the ball ahead to Mitchell around 20 yards out, who fought off a defender, turned into open space, and fired a left-footed shot from the middle of the field between two other defenders. The ball found the right side of the net.

Republic goalkeeper Awbree Berning made five saves to preserve the shutout, including two key stops in the second half. At the 27:23 mark, she deflected a Webb City breakaway shot high and right. Minutes later, she made a save on a one-hopper from a Webb City free kick.

The Lady Tigers outshot Webb City 12-5, with six shots on goal. Each team had four corner kicks.

The shutout was the sixth of the season for Berning and the Republic defense, and their second in a row. It’s the second time this season Republic has posted consecutive shutouts.

The victory was Republic’s fourth straight over Webb City. The Lady Cardinals fell to 4-4 overall with the loss.
