Republic tied a school record with 14 three-pointers in a 75-14 Central Ozark Conference victory at Neosho Monday. The win was the seventh straight for the Lady Tigers, who improved to 13-8 overall and 2-0 in the COC West.
Republic opened the first quarter with a barrage of scoring from multiple players, building a 26-0 lead. Sammi Watson scored 10 of her 14 points in that opening period, including a pair of three-point plays early that helped Republic jump ahead 4-0. After a Josie Stalzer three-pointer made it 7-0, Republic’s defense and offense continued to control the game.
The Lady Tigers scored in bunches throughout the first period, with Stalzer adding another basket to make it 16-0, then Strong hit a three-pointer to extend the lead to 22-0. Paelyn Gilmore and Awbree Berning finished the quarter with the final four points.
Neosho (4-13) finally got on the board in the second quarter when Jazmyn Washington scored with the Lady Tigers leading 31-0. Washington scored all six of her team-high points in the period.
Strong took over the third quarter, scoring 10 points, including two three-pointers. Her scoring outburst helped Republic outscore Neosho 20-0 in the period. Charlie Hagewood and Paelyn Gilmore each added three-pointers during that stretch as Republic’s lead grew to 62-7.
The Lady Tigers spread the scoring around in the fourth quarter, with five different players contributing points. Hagewood, Addie Brown, and Kaylee Cornelsen each connected from long range to help Republic tie the school record of 14 three-pointers in a game, originally set at Joplin in 2022.
Republic will host Joplin Friday as part of a super night with the boys basketball team. The game was originally scheduled for Thursday.
