The Lady Tigers soccer team extended its winning streak to eight games with a dominant 5-0 win over Branson at home on Tuesday night. Republic out-shot Branson 38-2 in the win.
Claire Redman put Republic on the board first, scoring off an assist from Molly Blades at the 37:12 mark in the first half. Blades then scored a goal of her own, assisted by Kaylee Cornelsen, to make it 2-0. Adison Gibbs dribbled through the Branson defense to add a third goal before halftime.
Gibbs scored again early in the second half, capitalizing on a rebound from a Blades shot to increase Republic’s lead to 4-0. Kendra Phiri then delivered a perfect cross into the box, which Blades redirected into the goal for the final score of 5-0.
Republic’s offensive onslaught resulted in 38 shots, with 26 of them on target. Branson goalkeeper Tatum Worth made 21 saves in the losing effort.
The win brings Republic within one game of tying the school record for consecutive wins, set in 2013. Their last loss came on April 5 against Glendale.
This marked Republic’s ninth shutout of the season, with the school record standing at 12, set in 2015.
The loss drops Branson’s record to 7-8, while Republic improves to 12-4 overall and 5-0 in the Central Ozark Conference. The Lady Tigers travel to Carl Junction Thursday.
