Republic Rewind: A Weekly Recap of Republic Sports

Here’s a brief recap of last week’s Republic sports action:

Republic’s golf team finished 11th out of 16 teams at the Pearson Invitational, improving their team score by 25 strokes over their previous outing. Izzy Benson earned a medal.

The soccer team opened the week with a tough 1-0 loss on penalty kicks to Nixa after 100 scoreless minutes. Santino Stiglianese scored all four goals in a 4-2 comeback win over Monett. Republic finished with two losses in the Kickapoo Shootout, including a second overtime loss against Capital City.

In cross country, Gracie Troester and Kristin Probst took 1st and 2nd for the Lady Tigers at their home meet. Brady Purcell and William Payne finished 2nd and 3rd for the boys. At the Laker Invitational, Troester won again, Probst took 3rd, and Purcell finished 5th.

The softball team lost 10-2 to conference rival Branson, but bounced back on Senior Night with win over Carthage. At the Springfield Invitational tournament, Republic went 2-0 on the first day with close wins over Marion C. Early (2-1) and Camdenton (3-1). They started bracket play with a 12-11 thriller over Liberty on a walk-off double by Lilli Richerson. In the semifinals, Republic lost 4-0 to Kickapoo. The Lady Tigers then lost the third-place game 6-5 to Webb City after leading 5-2.

The football team dominated Joplin 38-15 behind a punishing 413-yard rushing attack. Quarterback Wyatt Woods and fullback Kanon Krol each had huge games running the ball. The defense forced four turnovers. Brady Lewis had two interceptions.

In volleyball action, Republic got over the hump against longtime nemesis Carl Junction with a five-set win. The Lady Tigers then captured the Liberator Invitational title in Bolivar to get their 20th win this season. The Lady Tigers extended their winning streak to 10 matches.

At the Friday Fights swim meet, Noah Marshall and Reece Mason earned individual event points to lead Republic.
