Republic tennis players had a knack for winning big points during the COC Tournament in Springfield Wednesday. The Lady Tigers ended the day with two top finishes. Taylor Massey and Izzy Wells are COC doubles champions and Elli Woodward finished third in the #2 singles bracket.
Massey and Wells overcame several big deficits in both the semifinals and the finals. They fell behind 3-0 in the semifinals before storming back to win a tiebreaker. Then in the championship, they fell into a 7-2 hole before winning a tiebreaker to capture the gold.
Woodward started in a play-in match early Wednesday morning, and she won that match to earn the right to continue into the main #2 singles bracket. She eventually played six matches, winning three of them in tiebreakers, to earn third place.
