Season-Starting Scoring Slump Continues in OT Loss

The Lady Tigers did just about everything right Thursday against Rogersville – except the one thing they needed. Despite dominating possession and peppering Rogersville goalkeeper Kierra Clark with shot after shot, Republic failed to score for the second straight game, losing to Rogersville in overtime penalty kicks 0-0 (4-2).

From almost the opening whistle, Republic put pressure on the Wildcats’ defense. But the Lady Tigers couldn’t sneak the ball past Clark when she was in goal, and even missed an open-net opportunity in the first half that would have given them a 1-0 lead.

Instead, Rogersville’s defense managed to hold off the Lady Tigers through two overtime periods. The Wildcats won the game by making their first four penalty kicks in overtime, while Republic missed two of its first four.

Coach Kevin Hauck said despite the frustration of missing several scoring opportunities, he was encouraged by his team’s better play in their second game of the season. The Lady Tigers had lost to Rolla 3-0 earlier in the week, and barely managed a shot on goal against the Bulldogs.

Republic falls to 0-2, with games Monday against Parkview and Tuesday against Springfield Glendale.
