The Lady Tigers huddle up before their first match at Neosho.

Lady Tigers Tennis Team Romps in Opener

Republic dominated three doubles matches at Neosho, then cruised to a 9-0 victory on the road to open the fall tennis season. The Lady Tigers lost only five total games during their three doubles matches to set the tone for the night.

Republic entered the season with several lineup questions after losing dominant #1 player Kaitlyn Snyder to graduation. But several players stepped up, including sophomore Elsie Crawford, who filled Snyder’s spot in the singles lineup after playing only doubles play most of last year. Crawford joins a select list of Republic tennis players who’ve filled the top lineup spot as sophomores –– Snyder, Janelle Quesenberry, and Samantha Minor were the others.

The Lady Tigers also got solid contributions from seniors Carly McAtee, Hannah Morgan, and Katie Stiles. Two newcomers to the varsity level, Abbi McCord and Sedalia Shumaker, also picked up wins.

The Lady Tigers are 1-0, and they’ll play Carl Junction at the Joplin Athletic Complex Thursday.
