Bolivar Miscues Boost Republic

The Lady Tigers took advantage of sloppy defense by Bolivar to beat the Lady Liberators 7-6 in Bolivar Monday. Republic managed just five base hits against pitcher Katie Brooks, but Bolivar committed six errors.

The Lady Tigers scored two runs in the top of the second inning when Livi Collier and AJ Fenske walked, and Megan Thorne laid down a sacrifice bunt. Collier scored on a groundout by Avery Romans, and Riley Laub singled home pinch-runner Jaiden Gibbs.

In the third inning, Kaitlyn Ragsdale drew a walk to lead off the inning and stole second base. Julia Higgins reached base on a fielder’s choice when Bolivar tried to throw out Ragsdale advancing to third, but didn’t succeed. Ragsdale and Higgins both scored when Collier reached on an error.

Bolivar tied the game with a four-run inning in the bottom of the thid, but Republic regained the lead with a single run in the top of the fourth. Laub led off with a single and eventually came in to score on another error.

Each team scored two runs in the sixth. For Republic, the rally started with a single by Avery Romans. Riley Laub reached on an error trying to sacrifice, and Megan Weis singled home a run. Another run scored when Julia Higgins reached on an error.

The win allows Republic to rebound from a loss at Kickapoo last Friday. The Lady Tigers are now 13-2.
