Rogersville held Republic scoreless for the first 6 1/2 minutes of the game and never trailed in a 52-48 win at Republic Wednesday night. The Wildcats spoiled Senior Night for Republic, who honored seniors Taylor Fergen, Madi Appleberry, Allyson Barrett, and Madi Beckham before the game.
Republic started ice cold from the floor and trailed 11-2 at the end of the first quarter. It was 27-17 at halftime, but the Lady Tigers climbed back into the game, outscoring Rogersville 14-8 in the third quarter to close within four points at 35-31. Republic eventually tied it up, 44-44, with about 90 seconds remaining, but Rogersville outscored the Lady Tigers 8-2 the rest of the way to steal a victory.
“They’ve been a good group,” coach Kris Flood says of the senior class. “They’ve paid their dues and hopefully now—the regular season is over, we’ve taken some lumps, we’ve lost some close ones—we can learn from this week that we’ve got to come out a little quicker out of the gate and not dig such a hole. Whatever that is, we’ve got to figure that out, because if we do that in districts, we’ll be done.”
The Lady Tigers finish their regular season with a 15-11 record. They’re the #1 seed in their district, and will open district play Monday night against Carthage (9-12) or Joplin (6-17).
