The girls 4x100m relay team continued its storybook season by capturing a district championship at Branson Saturday. The team of Autumn Garner, Haven Lander, Lauren O’Hara, and Avy Powell-Qualo turned in its best time yet (51.45) to beat the rest of the field and advance to sectionals. The relay has continued to improve since suffering the loss of anchor Brooke Stanfield. All four team members also qualified for sectionals in individual events.
Defending state long jump champion Jerney Jones also won a district title. He jumped 22′ 4 1/2″ to out-distance his competitors. Jones also advanced to sectionals in the 100m dash.
In addition to the 4x100m relay, Haven Lander matched her personal best of 11’6″ in the pole vault to take second. Mariah Stanfield cleared a personal-best 10’0″ to take 4th, so she will be at sectionals, too.
Avy Powell-Qualo qualified for two other events. She’ll compete in the 100m dash at sectionals. She ran a 13.65 to take fourth place. Powell-Qualo also cleared 5’2″ in the high jump, taking 3rd place. Autumn Garner finished 4th in the 100m hurdles (16.85) and will move on. Lauren O’Hara continued to come on strong in the long jump, leaping 15’10” to take 4th place and qualify for sectionals.
Jack Hayes will be competing in two events at sectionals. He finished 4th in the discus (137’8″) and 4th in the shot put (44’7″).
In the 800m run, Treydon Rackley beat his previous best time by about three seconds. He finished in 1:59.97 to take 4th place.
Philip Canfield finished in 3rd place in the 3200m run, finishing in 9:44.37.
The boys 4x400m relay team was the last qualifier for Republic, finishing in 4th place with a time of 3:38.05. That team consists of Cody Frazier, Kyle Singley, Rackley, and Thomas Brewer.
Sectionals will be held next week on the campus of Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar.
