Three Shutouts Deliver Division Title

SoccerAfter an up-and-down start to the season, the Republic Lady Tigers’ performance at the Ozark Shootout was nothing but up. Republic shut out three straight opponents to capture the championship of the White Division at the tournament Friday and Saturday.

On Friday night, the Lady Tigers beat Joplin 1-0 in the tournament opener. After a scoreless first half, Sierra Casagrand scored the only goal of the game with just under 20 minutes remaining.

On Saturday morning, Republic dominated first-year program Monett 8-0. Seven different Lady Tigers scored in the game, starting with Brandy Glessner less than two minutes into the game. Two minutes later, Sierra Casagrand put the ball in the back of the net. And when Mikayla Jester scored with 32 minutes left in the half, the Lady Tigers led 3-0. A Lacy Smith goal at the 9:20 mark made it 4-0, and that’s where it was at halftime.

In the second half, Sara Marcotte got in the scorebook, and Casagrand added her second goal of the game. Haley Willis and Jocelyn Carpenter added goals to account for the final 8-0 score.

In the third game of the tournament, Marcotte scored with 24:25 left in the first half, and that was the only goal the Lady Tigers needed. They went on to beat Northwest 2-0 to secure a perfect record and win the White Division.
