Lady Tigers Can’t Get a Break in Loss to Rogersville

Rogersville scored two 1st-half goals on rebounds and held on to beat Republic 2-1. One of the Rogersville goals came after a shot bounced off the crossbar, another was a follow-up to a shot that had hit the post.

“The one wasn’t even a shot. It kind of rolled in, went off the post, and went right to their feet,” says coach Mike Hines. “Good for them for being in the right position.”

Republic dominated the action for most of the game, outshooting Rogersville 15-2. Hines says he credits Rogersville for taking advantage of the slow start by the Lady Tigers.

“I think the effort the first ten minutes was pretty flat,” Hines says. “But the last 20 minutes of the first half, we just pounded them, and we just didn’t get anything in the back of the net. What do you do? Welcome to soccer. It happens all the time.”

Republic falls to 1-2 this season. They play Springfield Central Friday night.
