Strobel Ks 10 in Win Over Jays

IMG 6931Nathan Strobel struck out ten batters in six innings as Republic beat Marshfield 8-3 at home Thursday. Strobel allowed two earned runs on four hits, and walked two to pick up the victory.

Clayton Rose and Parker Nelson each had two hits for the Tigers. Leadoff man Creed Smiley walked three times, stole two bases, and scored three runs.

The Tigers fell behind 1-0 in the top of the 3rd, but answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning when Smiley scored on a Marshfield error.

Marshfield scored again in the top of the 4th, but Republic put four runs on the board in response. Riley Norris singled and scored when he beat the throw to home plate on a grounder by Hunter Gill. After Smiley drew a walk and Gill scored on a wild pitch, Cole Hurst drove in another run with a groundout. Strobel capped the inning with an RBI single.

The win is the first of the year for the Tigers, who dropped two during the Leadoff Tournament last week. Their next game is Monday at Hillcrest.
