The Republic girls tennis team has won 40 of its last 45 individual matches, and a 9-0 sweep at Joplin Thursday made it five straight dual wins for the Lady Tigers. Republic’s only dual loss of the season came on the first day, 5-3 to Kickapoo, and the Lady Tigers have not lost since.
Republic is 7-1 in dual play. In the six duals since the Kickapoo loss, Republic has swept three opponents 9-0, beaten Springfield Central 7-2, and beaten Nixa 6-3.
Republic 6, Nixa 3
Elaina Antonuk and Marlee Vasquez won at #2 doubles and Aubree Tinsley and Leighton Riffe won at #3 doubles, and the four of them carried the middle of the lineup through singles play to beat Nixa 6-3 Tuesday. Nixa’s wins came at the top and bottom of the lineup, where Claire Norris and Riffe lost close singles matches and Norris and Abigail Bremer lost at #1 doubles.
Nixa took the top doubles match, beating Norris and Bremer 8-2 at #1 doubles. Antonuk and Vasquez earned an 8-5 win at #2 doubles, and Tinsley and Riffe won 8-3 at #3 doubles to send Republic into singles play with a 2-1 lead.
Antonuk won 8-4 at #2 singles and Bremer won 8-3 at #3, and Vasquez turned in an 8-5 win at #4. Tinsley won 8-4 at #5 singles. Norris lost 8-4 at #1 singles, and Riffe lost 7-9 at #6 in the closest match of the night.
Republic beat Springfield Central 7-2 Wednesday.
The Lady swept all three doubles matches and all six singles matches at Joplin Thursday. It is the Lady Tigers’ third 9-0 sweep in the last five duals.
