The Republic golf team already has one tournament title. Coach Chris Bodoin would like some more.
The Tigers opened the spring with a win at the Honey Creek Golf Club in Aurora, and they have the roster depth to stay competitive all season. Bodoin has a large group this year — one he said has created a productive internal culture.
“We’ve created an environment where guys are constantly pushing each other to improve, but also supporting one another,” Bodoin said. “That internal competition has really elevated our overall level of play, while still maintaining a strong sense of team chemistry.”
In growing the size of the roster this spring, Bodoin talked to potential team members about what the sport has to offer.
“I made a point to connect with students, encourage multi-sport athletes, and show them that golf is a great opportunity to compete, improve, and be part of something bigger than themselves,” he said.
At the top of the lineup is Ryder Edmonds, who Bodoin said took a significant step forward last season and has carried that progress into the spring.
“What stands out right now is how composed he is — he’s not just relying on talent, he’s managing his game and making smart decisions,” Bodoin said. “He’s done a great job tightening up the little things, particularly around the greens and with his scoring consistency.”
Edmonds proved it at Honey Creek, teaming with sophomore Liam Tharp to shoot a 69 and win first place in the two-man scramble.
Tharp is one of the younger players Bodoin expects to factor in all season. “He’s an exciting young player with a lot of upside,” Bodoin said. “He’s already shown he can compete, and his growth will be big for us this season.”
Behind Edmonds, the Tigers have a deep group of contributors at the varsity level.
Senior Maddux Blansit brings experience and consistency. “He brings composure and the ability to post consistent scores when we need it most,” Bodoin said. Blansit teamed with senior Chance Gimlin at Honey Creek, and the two shot a 78.
Gimlin adds potential of his own. “He’s capable of going low and adds depth with his scoring ability,” Bodoin said.
Senior Dylan Delahay and junior Brody Romines paired up at Honey Creek and shot a 74, winning a tiebreaker to finish second. Bodoin said Delahay gives the Tigers reliability in the lineup, while Romines “brings toughness and consistency and continues to improve his overall game.”
Junior Bryce Hein rounds out the varsity group. “He’s really come on and adds balance to our lineup,” Bodoin said. “He’s capable of contributing solid scores and pushing for a spot every round.”
The Tigers have both experience and depth — and a tournament trophy already on the shelf with a full season ahead. They’ll be after even more success as the season unfolds.
