Republic tennis cruised to a lopsided victory over Central Ozark Conference West opponent Neosho on Tuesday night, winning every match in a 9-0 victory.
Before the matches began, Republic honored three seniors — Nathan Henry, Nevan Kulp, and Shane Lile. It was also a milestone of sorts for coach Dan Vales, who returned to lead the program this season after a hiatus. In his first year back, Tuesday’s ceremony marked his first senior class of this tenure.
“I’m proud of the hard work and leadership of our seniors,” Vales said. “They welcomed me back and have worked hard from day one of practices to today.”
Henry has been part of the program for four seasons and a multi-year varsity player. This year he moved into the No. 2 singles spot, and Vales said the transition paid off — Henry finished third in Flight 2 at the Republic Invitational among his notable results.
Kulp came into his own in his second season, putting in off-season work that earned him a varsity singles spot at No. 4. He beat Willard in singles play this season, one of several varsity wins Vales cited.
Lile returned to the team this season after stepping away last year and has climbed to the No. 9 spot in the team’s overall ranking. Off the court, Lile has enlisted in the Navy. Vales said the team is proud of him for that decision.
“We all wish him well as he takes that next step after high school,” Vales said.
The win over Neosho improved Republic’s record to 5-4, moving the Tigers above .500 on the season.
