Andie Wistrom put Republic ahead in the first half on pure hustle — and the Lady Tigers never looked back in a 3-0 win at Jefferson City on Thursday night.
Wistrom’s first goal came with 32:21 left in the opening half. She went down about 10 yards from the goal, but the Jefferson City goalkeeper and a defender both failed to clear the ball. Wistrom got back to her feet, took it away, and flicked it ahead into the empty net for a 1-0 lead. It was reminiscent of a Paige Elsenraat goal after she was knocked down against Ozark earlier in the week.
Republic doubled its advantage before the break. A foul just outside the box gave the Lady Tigers a free kick with 6:33 remaining in the half, and Macey Mitchell played the ball back to Bria Claxton roughly 25 yards out. Claxton’s low shot skipped along the turf and threaded its way through traffic and into the goal.
Wistrom capped the scoring with 10:13 left in the second half. Mitchell dumped a pass into the top left corner of the box, and Wistrom beat a defender before firing it into the left side of the net.
Awbree Berning made eight saves to earn her third shutout of the season. Republic (5-3) has now won three straight and allowed just three goals over its last five matches. Jefferson City fell to 2-4.
The Lady Tigers continue their mid-Missouri road trip Friday with a 3:00 p.m. match at Columbia Hickman.
