The junior’s throw erased the previous mark of 49.96 meters — a 4.58-meter improvement, or about 15 feet — and he won the event by nearly 9 meters over the runner-up. The old record had stood for years.

Goals scored by Andie Wistrom in 36 minutes against Hillcrest during the Branson Shootout, ending the game via mercy rule at 8-0. The performance puts her 20th in the MSHSAA record book for goals scored in a single half. She’s now scored in four straight matches.

Points scored by the Republic boys track team in their own Republic Classic, more than doubling the runner-up score of 109 (Springfield Catholic). The girls weren’t far behind at 205, and Republic swept both team titles on a 12-team field in the season opener.

Strikeouts for Brennan Overstreet in a complete-game, seven-inning win over Ozark. He retired 10 of the last 11 batters he faced, struck out the side in order in the sixth, and was on the mound for a seven-run explosion in the same inning that turned a tightly pitched game into an 8-1 final.

Zoey Johns’ time in the 3200 meters at the Republic Classic, a personal best and first-place finish for the sophomore. Teammate Brylie Harris ran a personal best of 13:21 in the same race. Both then turned around and ran legs on the 4×800 relay, which Republic also won (10:43.60).

Shutouts for goalkeeper Awbree Berning this season, including a 3-0 blanking of Jefferson City on Thursday in which she made 8 saves. The Lady Tiger defense has allowed just three goals over the past five matches as Republic has climbed to 5-3.

The winning score by Ryder Edmonds and Liam Tharp in the two-man scramble at the Aurora Tournament, Republic’s golf season opener. Two other Tiger pairs — Delahay/Romines and Blansit/Gimlin — rounded out a strong showing across the board to start the year.
