Republic scored four goals in a 12-minute first-half stretch and four more in the opening 12 minutes of the second half to roll past Springfield Central 8-0 Tuesday night at home.
Andie Wistrom opened the scoring with 32:21 left in the first half, then added another at the 29:45 mark to make it 2-0. Macey Mitchell pushed the lead to 3-0 with 22:49 remaining, assisted by Wistrom. Jaclyn Wade capped the first-half surge at 20:08, assisted by Mitchell.
The second half was more of the same. Wistrom completed her hat trick with 35:07 remaining, assisted by Mitchell. Bria Claxton made it 6-0 with an unassisted goal at 32:50. Freshman Anna Hawks scored the final two goals — at 31:51 and 28:31 — to close out the rout. Claxton assisted on Hawks’ second.
Wistrom finished with three goals and an assist. She has 20 goals on the season. Mitchell had a goal and two assists.
Awbree Berning made six saves to record her sixth shutout of the season.
It’s Republic’s third 8-0 win of the season. The Tigers have won four of their last five and seven of their last nine to improve to 9-5. Central falls to 6-2.
Republic heads to the Kickapoo Shootout next.
Republic’s JV team also won 5-0.
