Republic hung 10 runs on Central in the first inning and cruised to a 21-0 run-rule victory Tuesday at Central.
The 21 runs are the most for the Tigers in at least 17 seasons, one shy of the program record of 22 set in a win over Rogersville in 1999. The 21-run margin is the largest in program history. (Editor’s Note: The online school record previously was listed as 23, but the 1999 yearbook shows the top scoring output that year was 22.)
Drake Dishman earned his first varsity win on the mound, striking out seven in four innings of one-hit ball. He walked one. Blaine Long pitched a scoreless fifth, striking out one.
Republic sent 16 batters to the plate in a first inning that featured five hits, four walks, a hit batter and three Central errors. Brennan Overstreet drove in two with a hard ground ball single to right, and Chase Connell and Zayden Danielson each added RBI singles later in the frame.
The Tigers tacked on single runs in the third and fourth before putting up nine more in the fifth. Twelve different Republic players recorded hits, with Danielson and Connell each collecting two.
Cooper Thomas, Nolan Lashley, Landon Perkins, Overstreet, Maddox West, Fisher Moore, Cooper Cornelsen, Evan Rockhill, Lennon Snodgrass and Carter Coggin each recorded single hits for Republic.
Central committed eight errors, and Bulldog pitchers walked eight and hit four batters.
Republic (7-10) plays next at home against Glendale (12-8) on Thursday.
