Republic pitchers issued 12 walks Thursday, and that was the difference in a 6-1 loss to Glendale at home.

Glendale’s Kyle Julian threw a complete game, allowing one run on three hits and striking out eight. For a while, Kyler Tate fought through control problems to keep the game close.

Both teams scored in the first inning. Reed Jackson doubled home a run to put the Falcons on the board. In the bottom of the frame, Zayden Danielson led off with a double and scored when Glendale made consecutive errors on the same play as Cooper Thomas tried to sacrifice Danielson to third. Danielson ended up scoring, tying the game at 1.

The score held until the fifth, when Glendale broke through against starter Tate. With the bases loaded, Kaden Tuhey walked to force in the go-ahead run. Beau West singled in another, and Alex McCauley added a sacrifice fly for a 4-1 lead.

The Falcons added two more in the sixth. Charlie Habel’s sacrifice fly scored a run, and West drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 6-1.

Tate took the loss. He walked five and struck out five. Gabe Benjamin issued three walks while recording one out. Greg Hicks pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, walking four but allowing no runs and getting a 6-4-3 double play to escape the sixth.

Fisher Moore led the Republic offense, going 2-for-3. Danielson’s leadoff double in the first was the Tigers’ only extra-base hit.

Republic falls to 7-11. Glendale improves to 13-8. The Tigers play in the Marshfield Invitational this weekend.
