A six-run third inning was all Webb City needed in a 6–2 win over Republic. The Tigers trailed just 1–0 when the Cardinals sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the third and scored six times, chasing Kyler Tate and blowing a close game open.
Republic had taken a brief lead in the top of the third. Fisher Moore walked to lead off, moved to second on a Chase Connell groundout, then scored when a fly ball off the bat of Cooper Thomas fell for an error in left field.
The Cardinals fought back quickly. Webb City opened the third with an error, two hit batters, and a sacrifice fly to tie it, then kept rolling. A second error, a single, a bases-loaded walk, and a two-run single pushed the score to 6–1. Republic committed two of its three errors in the inning. None of the six runs was earned.
Tate finished with the loss, allowing six runs on four hits with five strikeouts. He hit four batters in his three innings of work.
Gabe Benjamin followed with three scoreless innings, holding Webb City hitless until a one-out single in the sixth. He finished with three strikeouts.
Republic’s second run came in the fifth on a Landon Blankenship single and a couple of Webb City errors.
The Tigers managed three hits total — two from Blankenship and one from Brennan Overstreet — and struck out 10 times.
Republic falls to 7–15. The Tigers host Neosho on Thursday.
