Not much went right in the fourth quarter for the Lady Tigers in a home game against Glendale. But not enough went wrong to turn the night into a loss. Republic managed to avoid a disastrous finish, holding on for a 47-44 win over the Lady Falcons on Monday night at home.
The Lady Tigers led wire to wire, opening the game with a 15–3 first quarter and taking a 29–17 advantage into halftime. Republic pushed the margin to 42–28 late in the third quarter and appeared in control most of the way.
The fourth quarter was a different story. Glendale closed the game on a 16–5 run, aided by nine second-half turnovers by Republic. Glendale’s Kensie Miner, who scored 24 points and hit four three-pointers, brought Glendale back into the game, and the Lady Falcons cut the deficit from 46–44 in the final minute.
Paelyn Gilmore’s free throw with 19 seconds left gave Republic a three-point lead, and Glendale’s last possession ended with a missed three-pointer.
After the game, Republic coach Tori Mooneyham pointed to focus and ball security.
“We’ve had games where we don’t shoot well, so that I can accept,” Mooneyham said. “At some point we lost our focus. You can’t have nine turnovers in the second half and not expect it to be a close ball game.”
It was the second win of the season for Republic over Glendale. The first came in overtime after Republic rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit. This time, the Lady Tigers nearly gave one back before holding on at home.
Addie Brown led Republic with 13 points. Republic shot 36 percent from the field and went 5-for-22 from three-point range.
Republic improves to 14-3. The Lady Tigers return to action on Thursday at Webb City as Central Ozark Conference West Division play begins.
