Overcast Wins COC Title to Lead Republic

Keaton Overcast and Ethan Montiel led Republic on Saturday at the COC boys wrestling tournament in Carthage, with both finishing among the top four in their weight classes.

Overcast claimed the 144-pound championship, going 4–0 on the day and scoring 27 team points. He opened with a fall, followed with a tech fall and a major decision, then closed the tournament with a 12–11 decision over Lincoln Stearns of Waynesville in the title match.

Montiel placed fourth at 215 pounds. After an early loss, he put together a three-match run through the consolation bracket to reach the third-place bout, finishing the tournament with 13 team points.

Competing in a combined East and West field but scored separately, Republic finished third among West schools behind Neosho and Willard.

Three Republic wrestlers earned fifth-place finishes. Kaiden Patterson placed fifth at 157, winning three matches by fall and scoring 13 points. Kameron Sutton finished fifth at 165, going 4–1 with two tie-breaker wins late in the tournament to score 10 points. Izaiah Hull also placed fifth at 175, recording three falls in the consolation rounds and adding 13 points.

Isaac Crowley placed sixth at 138, highlighted by a sudden-victory win over Glendale’s Quinton Donoho. Aydan Walker (106), Bentley Packwood (126), Abel Shade (150), and Brentley Lahey (190) each placed seventh as Republic finished the day with 111.5 points overall.
