Running at the challenging Gans Creek Course, Harris finished 60th in a field of more than 150 runners with a time of 19:58.7, continuing her strong finish to the season after a career-best performance at districts. Johns placed 120th, crossing the line in 21:15.4.
The results were similar to the 2022 state championship for Republic. In that race, another sophomore, Gracie Troester, finished 60th, and Kristin Probst finished 113th.
Friday’s race capped a breakthrough season for both runners, who each qualified for state for the first time after earning top-30 finishes at the Class 5 District 2 meet in Nixa a week earlier.
