Republic didn’t waste a moment turning Senior Night into a celebration. The Tigers scored early, often, and in nearly every way possible during a 59–7 rout of Willard to close out the regular season at 7–2. The same two teams will meet again next week in the first round of the district tournament.
Republic’s offense and defense both took turns dominating. On Willard’s opening drive, the defense forced a turnover on downs deep in Willard territory. Two plays later, Owen Klier plunged into the end zone from a yard out for a quick 7–0 lead. After a safety on Willard’s next possession made it 9–0, Jin Villasica added a five-yard touchdown run to push the margin to 16–0 with just over five minutes gone.
Klier scored again from 13 yards out after an interception by linebacker Mason Whitworth, and Izaiah Hull capped the first-quarter blitz with a 44-yard touchdown sprint on the final play of the period. At the end of one, Republic led 30–0.
In the second quarter, the defense kept delivering. Keiran Govan intercepted a pass in the end zone and raced 106 yards the other direction for a touchdown, setting a new school record and stretching the lead to 37–0. A few minutes later, Treyton Gray dashed 21 yards for another touchdown to make it 44–0. The last touchdown of the half belonged to Klier, his third of the night, giving Republic a 51-0 lead at half.
Three of Republic’s four interceptions came in that dominant first half—by Whitworth, Govan, and Cayden Pacheco—with AJ Uhl adding the fourth after halftime.
The second half moved quickly under the running clock. In the third quarter, Tristan Burks finished off another drive with a five-yard touchdown run to make it 59–0. Willard’s only points came early in the fourth quarter on a five-yard run by James Slaughter.
Republic ran 43 times for 312 yards and didn’t complete a pass, though it hardly mattered. Hull led the ground attack with 66 yards and a touchdown on five carries. Klier scored three times while picking up 49 yards, and Gray (28 yards), Burks (41), and Villasica (10) each found the end zone. In all, 11 different players carried the ball as Republic controlled the game from start to finish.
Defensively, the Tigers set the tone up front, recording multiple sacks and hurrying Willard quarterback Kaiden Snyder throughout the night. Willard finished with just 162 total yards on 59 plays, completing 11 of 35 passes and punting seven times.
Republic opens district play next week. That game is likely to be on Thursday, if MSHSAA signs off on the change. Our broadcast will be on MSHSAA.tv instead of YouTube.
