Addie Brown’s third-inning home run lit a spark under the Lady Tigers, igniting a come-from-behind win on the road at Ozark Tuesday, 7-5.

Brown’s home run came at a key time, after Ozark jumped in front with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Kaityn Stewart led off the top of the third with an infield single, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Mia Carnes. Brown’s homer scored two more to tie the game 3-3.

Ozark grabbed a one-run lead in the fourth, but Republic answered again in the top of the fifth. Carnes singled and scored on a base hit by Piper Dishman to tie the game again.

Neither team scored again until the eighth. Kara Goeke and Maddie Carter led off the inning with consecutive singles. An error and a groundout scored two runs, and Paige Elsenraat drove in a third run on a single after Emma Ellison reached on an error.

Goeke allowed a single run in the bottom of the eighth, but held on to earn the win in relief. She worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing only two unearned runs. She struck out four.

Carnes, Brown, Goeke, and Carter each had two hits for Republic, which finished with 11 base hits.

The win lifted Republic’s record to 4-1 to start the season.
