Republic’s late-season slump continued Monday, as the Tigers were shut out by Willard 7-0 at home. Republic managed just three hits against Willard starter Levi Hilton, who struck out 11 Tiger batters in a complete-game performance.

The game remained scoreless until the third inning when Willard broke through with three runs. Willard added three more runs in the sixth inning, then tacked on its final run in the seventh on a wild pitch.

Cannon Ellison started on the mound for Republic and pitched into the sixth inning before giving way to Kyler Tate.

Jackson Overstreet, Nolan Coble, and Brennan Overstreet collected the only hits for Republic, all singles. The Tigers had their best scoring opportunity in the fourth inning when Ellison walked and Coble singled with two outs, but Hilton struck out Zayden Danielson to end the threat.

Republic also threatened in the third, putting runners at the corners with two outs before Hilton struck out Jackson Overstreet to escape the jam.

The loss was Republic’s fourth straight, dropping their record to 11-13 on the season. The Tigers will look to snap their losing streak when they travel to Carthage (14-10) on Tuesday.
