Senior Porter Bollinger’s birdie putt on the final hole sealed a one-stroke victory for Republic at the Monett Invitational golf tournament Monday at Windmill Ridge. The Tigers shot a team score of 308 to capture their first tournament title of the season.
All five Republic golfers placed in the top 10 individually, led by Cason Bekemeier, who shot a 74 to finish in second place. Luke Heavin and Ryder Edmonds each carded 77s, tying for fourth place. Bollinger, who medaled at the COC tournament a day earlier, finished ninth with an 80, and Owen George rounded out the Tiger contingent with an 81, tying for 10th place.
The tournament, originally scheduled for May 1, had been postponed due to rain.
Monett’s Jaxon Bailey earned individual medalist honors with a 72, but his Cubs team finished with a 309, one stroke behind Republic.
Neosho finished third with a 334, followed by Webb City (354), Carthage (370), and Joplin (375).
The victory comes after several near misses for the Tigers this season. The Tigers head into district play next week, on May 12.
