Rolla broke open a competitive match with two late goals to hand Republic a 4-1 defeat in girls soccer action Friday night. The Lady Tigers stayed within striking distance until the final 15 minutes when the Lady Bulldogs pulled away on their home turf.
Rolla grabbed an early lead when a through ball sent McKenna Moore into the right corner. Moore’s crossing pass found Olivia Young, who tucked her shot just inside the right post with 32:03 left in the first half. Rolla doubled its advantage less than five minutes later on Apryl Decker’s header from a corner kick that sailed over Republic goalkeeper Awbree Berning’s outstretched hands.
Republic cut the deficit to 2-1 early in the second half when Macey Mitchell converted a penalty kick, placing her shot into the left side of the net after a handball in the box with 35:42 remaining.
That was as close as Republic would get. Rolla added two more goals in the final 15 minutes to seal the victory.
The loss drops Republic to 13-8 on the season, while Rolla improves to 8-6. The Lady Tigers return home to host Parkview on Senior Night, May 13, with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m.
