Carl Junction’s Brody Pant singled home the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving the Bulldogs a 7-6 win over Republic Friday. The game had been moved from Republic to Carl Junction because of wet field conditions in Republic.
Carl Junction jumped on the Tigers for four runs in the bottom of the first inning after Republic had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the inning. Pant tripled home Cooper Vediz to tie the game 1-1. Deacon Endicott grounded out to score Pant. Wyatt McAfee doubled and scored on a passed ball, and Braxton Jones singled home another run to make the score 4-1.
Republic cut into the lead with two runs in the fourth inning, scoring on an error, then adding a run when Preston McCracken singled home Nolan Lashley to make the score 4-3. In the fifth, Republic scored three more runs to take a 6-4 lead. Jackson Overstreet cleared the bases with a triple to right field, driving in Nolan Coble, Zayden Danielson, and Chase Connell (running for Brennan Overstreet).
Carl Junction tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Pant drove in Vediz with a double, then Endicott singled home Pant to make the score 6-6.
In the eighth, Carl Junction loaded the bases with one out, and Pant singled to drive in the game-winner.
Brennan Overstreet started on the mound for Republic, working five innings. He allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits, striking out six. Cooper Thomas took the loss.
Chase Smith earned the win in relief for Carl Junction. He worked 4 1/3 innings without allowing a run.
Jackson Overstreet drove in three runs. McCracken and Lashley each had two hits.
The loss drops Republic’s record to 11-12. The Tigers will host Willard on Monday.
