Republic’s track teams faced tough competition at back-to-back Springfield meets last week, with several finishing in the top 10 against large fields at JFK Stadium.
The Lady Tigers competed Thursday at the Girls Night Out meet against 35 other schools, while both boys and girls teams participated in Friday’s Jim Vaughan Invitational against 45 other teams.
Gracie Troester led Republic with two top-five finishes in distance events. Troester placed fifth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:22.19 and followed that with a third-place finish in the 3200-meter run, crossing the line in 11:39.66.
The Lady Tigers’ 4×800-meter relay team of Josie Stalzer, Zoey Johns, Brylie Harris, and Troester delivered Republic’s best result of the two days, finishing second with a time of 10:11.83.
For the boys, Keiran Govan collected two top-10 finishes in field events at the Jim Vaughan Invitational. Govan placed eighth in high jump, clearing 1.83 meters, and fifth in triple jump with a distance of 12.89 meters.
Will Payne narrowly missed a top-eight finish in the 300-meter hurdles, placing 10th with a time of 42.46 seconds. Ekene Chukwu also secured a 10th-place finish in discus with a throw of 45.58 meters.
