The defense stole the show, but Brenley Hagewood’s was his typical self last week during a district quarterfinal win over Ozark. Hagewood’s 25-point performance against Ozark in the district quarterfinals helped Republic advance with a 58-25 win Wednesday night. Hagewood’s scoring output matched Ozark’s entire team total in the Class 6 District 5 tournament opener.
Hagewood knocked down four three-pointers against Ozark, adding to his season-long barrage from beyond the arc. Later in the week, in Republic’s season-ending loss to Kickapoo, he hit two more triples to set a new Republic single-season record with 85 three-pointers.
The senior guard’s defensive effort was equally impressive. Coach Tim Brown praised Hagewood’s work guarding one of Ozark’s top scoring threats, helping Republic hold Ozark to just eight points in the entire second half.
For his scoring and his defensive play in the district quarterfinals, Hagewood earns this week’s Performance of the Week.
