Republic throttled Webb City 80-46 Friday night, unleashing a 32-point third-quarter explosion that turned a close game into a rout.
CJ Uhl scored a career-high 26 points and Brenley Hagewood added 27 as Republic turned a nine-point first-half lead into a blowout with its highest-scoring quarter in recent memory. Thirty-two points in a quarter is tied for the 23rd-highest single-quarter output in Missouri history, according to the records listed on the Missouri State High School Activities Association website.
Webb City had built an early 9-2 lead before Republic closed the first quarter with an 11-0 run, including a three-pointer and a free throw by Hagewood to make it 13-9.
Republic extended its lead to 31-22 at halftime, then blew the game open in the third quarter. The Tigers outscored Webb City 32-16 in that period, with Hagewood scoring 14 of his points during that stretch. Many of those came as Hagewood powered his way to the glass, grabbed offensive rebounds, and put the ball back into the bucket.
“He’s one of the most explosive and athletic players that we’ve had in this program,” coach Tim Brown said of Hagewood. “To see him use that and add it by offensive rebounding … those are kind of some trash baskets that he’ll benefit from and we’ll benefit from.”
Uhl repeatedly got the ball in good position near the basket, and Brown points to his guards for finding ways to get Uhl the ball despite Webb City’s defensive pressure.
“CJ was awesome, but you’ve got to give our guards credit for getting it to him,” Brown said. “We thought we had a mismatch there, and we knew that they were going to try to pressure us so we couldn’t get it there, and I thought our guards, as the game went on, really found ways to get him the ball.”
Ryder Davis scored nine points on three three-pointers for Republic. Davin Parks added 11.
Kaden Howard, crowned as Republic’s courtwarming king before tipoff, scored the game’s final four points.
Holton Keith led Webb City with 16 points. Slade Hurd scored 15.
